Automotive & Refuelling Simulations

Refuelling systems, external body aerodynamics, exhaust systems, wetting conditions, are all the possible subjects that can be investigated and optimized through numerical modeling.

The software FLOW-3D can help you in simulating any car parts, under different flow or environmental conditions making use of a fully 3D turbulent approach.
Users can easily import their geometries, and the mashing phase is greatly reduced trough the use of the FAVORTM algorithm. The FAVOR is an immersive boundary approach, where the mesh is quickly drawn by creating boxes around complex shapes. No need to follow the contour of the solid obstacle, to mesh it.
The approach is through a time-marching technique, that allows high accuracy and computational speed especially when solving transient problems.

Simulation provides in output several quantities of interest:
    • pressure and velocity value in every cell location at every time-frame
    • drag and lift forces acting over solid objects (decomposed by pressure and shear)
    • torques acting over solid objects (decomposed by pressure and shear)
    • particle dynamics
    • streamlines seeding
    • vorticity and stagnation zones
    • local shear stress
    • rigid body motion dynamics

Especially powerful is the use of the rigid body dynamics multi-physics, where users can define multiple objects with up to 6 DoF each, interacting each other and with the fluid through a collision model and full fluid-momentum equation coupling.

In automotive, it is often used to perform optimization over any simplified 2D model or panel method.

IOSO will work in loop with your modeling tools, using a new optimization "push-button" technology, that adopt a Self-Organization Strategy making use of up to 7 different well-known optimization methods (gradients, genetic, neural network, search region,...).
