Nowadays it is of fundamental importance to design green-products, low-energy demanding, or devices that are able to recover energy from natual phenomena. Such devices can be eolic turbines or the newest wave energy power absorber. XC Engineering propose two different tools that can be used to design energy absorber devices and push their performance to the maximum, at the design stage: FLOW-3D and IOSO.
FLOW-3D is a fluid-dynamic simulatio tool that has a very long experience in reproducing free surface phenomena like wave motion and free coupled objects moving in it.
With the TruVOF (evolution of the VOF method) and a time-marching technique, simulations are fast and accurate, especially when solving transient problems.
Users can directly import topographic files for their ground, complete it with any 3D moving cad element, and then quickly setup a wide range of hydraulics conditions, starting from a simple static hydraulics head, through complex wave systems (linear, stokes, solitary, cynoidal, and random waves).
Simulation provides in output several quantities of interest for engineers:
• pressure and velocity value in every cell location at every time-frame
• particle dynamics
• streamlines seeding
• vorticity and stagnation zones
• local shear stress
• rigid body motion dynamics
• power and torques curves generated by the device
Additionally, users can add in the simulation a very rich multi-physics, like: deformable components, phase change phenomena, tracking colorant, electrically charged particles, etc.
Nowadays, to get into the market with the highest quality level product as possible, it is often used to perform an optimization study of the own energy system, for example in order to define some design parameter (rod lengths, mass position, etc...) that push the global efficiency high and high.
To search for very extremum performance in a very quick way, try the software IOSO Technology (by SigmaTechnology).
IOSO will work in loop with your actual modeling tools, no needs of buying other simulation tools, using a new optimization "push-button" technology, that adopt a Self-Organization Strategy making use of up to 7 different well-known optimization methods (gradients, genetic, neural network, search region,...).
