Thanks to the most modern CFD software it is possible to study in detail the flow field that is generated around the turbine blades or the blades of wind power systems. In both cases this is possible using a high level fluid dynamic software capable of handling complex movements of the geometries and coupling them to the fluid dynamic of air or water in motion within the system.
XC Engineering uses the software FLOW-3D, particularly powerful in the simulation of unsteady flows coupled with moving objects. Thanks to this tool, in fact, it is possible to analyze in detail the behavior of the fluid and measure the effects of its interaction with the turbine, calculating the forces produced on every single blade.
Modern technologies also allow to obtain more information from the simulations: by coupling FLOW-3D with an optimization software such as IOSO it is possible to automatically search for the best geometry of each individual part of the system in order to reach the optimum goals.
