FLOW-3D unlike others commercial CFD software has been completely developed to be natively transient and to solve with the highest level of accuracy free-surface flows; those characteristics make FLOW-3D a unique and absolutely distinguish software. This software was born inside Los Alamos Laboratories from the ideas of Dr. Hirt, inventor of the VOF numerical method, the best algorithm for fluid free surface tracking. With the years the traditional VOF has evolved in the incomparable TruVOF, absolutely the best for accuracy and performances. The code is totally “general purpose”: Born for aerospace industry as sloshing analysis, it is today used for many other application fields: hydraulics/environmental, consumer products, inkjet printers, foundry, coating, maritime, till the latest modern applications such as biomedical and MEMS. One only package
FLOW-3D is an all-inclusive package, from the setup of the simulation to the post-processing, without any additional module. An intuitive graphical user interface guides the user step-by-step through the problem, while data analysis is done with the engine of Ensight, post-processor of the latest generation, which enable the user to obtain precise results quickly and understand and present them clearly. Finally, the code of FLOW-3D is partially open-source, giving the possibility to customize the software to fit every needs.
